So you want to get a cheap home gym? There are several things you need to consider prior to running out and buying a gym.
First off establish your budget. This will immediately narrow down the gyms you want to consider. Keep in mind that affordability doesn’t necessarily mean cheap quality.
You also need to consider where the gym will go in your home and other space constraints that you may have. It would not be advisable to purchase a large home gym if you live in a one bedroom apartment.
Be sure to measure the space first as well, you don’t want to kick the wall every time you do a leg curl. Look for equipment that can either fold up or has other space saving features, which are both very common in home gyms.
Next figure out what your fitness goals are. Are you looking to tone up and perhaps slim down? Or are you looking to become ripped and capable of bench pressing a few hundred pounds? These factors will greatly influence your choice. Also consider whether you want a weight stack or bar/pulley system. Both give results, the difference is mainly in the users preference.
You should also find out if the home gym you want offers accessories to allow you to get the most bang for your buck. Many home gyms offer weight upgrades as well as attachments for various arm and leg workouts.
Does it have a warranty and if so, for how long? Make sure you read the fine print and not just the key features of the gym. You want to make sure the manufacturer is going to stand behind their product for more than a month. By now you probably have 2-4 home gyms you are have narrowed it down to.
If at all possible, try it out in person before buying. You may find your perfect machine looks good online, but doesn’t fit your physique. Many home gyms are geared towards users who are 6’0” and shorter, often resulting in improper use of the equipment by those who are taller. This is an investment in your overall health, make sure you spend your money wisely.
